God’s Rainbow of Promises: A 5-Day Plan for Kids With American Sign Languageনমুনা

Day 3: When You Feel Fear, Be Still and Remember Who God Is
There is a story in the Bible about Jesus’s disciples encountering a big storm on the lake while Jesus was asleep on the boat. The disciples were afraid, so they woke Jesus up. Jesus spoke to the waves and said, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind stopped, the lake became calm, and the disciples were no longer afraid.
Whether we’re scared of the dark or anxious about making new friends, we’ve all felt fear. We’ve all been afraid. But just as Jesus calmed the storm on the lake, Jesus can also calm the storms in our hearts. The Bible says we don’t have to be scared because God is with us! We can choose to be still and overcome our fears through God.
Being still means trusting God and letting go of our fears. Because the Bible says that God is faithful and will protect us, we know God will calm us and give us peace as we turn to Him whenever we feel scared. We can trust God to ease our fears. God wants your heart to be filled with the knowledge that you are loved and protected—completely and always—so there is no room for fear!
Discuss:
Jesus takes all our worries away from us and gives us peace in place of our fears. What does that tell you about who God is?
Watch and Sign:
Watch the video and practice the American Sign Language (ASL) signs for the word ‘fear’ and the phrase ‘be still.’
“When you feel fear, be still and know.”
Prayer:
God, You are a good, loving, and caring Heavenly Father. You see me, and You know when I am scared or nervous. I pray You’ll help me be still and remember that I can trust in You whenever I feel afraid. Amen.
About this Plan

Inspired by the board book, God’s Rainbow of Promises, written by Deaf and hearing sisters Janet Moreno and Jennifer Fusco, this plan covers five common emotions that kids experience and teaches them to navigate these feelings with the help of Scripture and American Sign Language (ASL). Children will learn to choose positive and biblically informed ways to manage their emotions and foster practical understanding and application of God’s Word with physical reminders through ASL alliteration.
