Small Wonder: A Christmas Devotional Journey

DAY 17 OF 25

Wonderful deeds

God’s wonderful deeds are beyond description, more numerous and marvellous than any of us can hear or record in our lifetime. After writing 21 chapters of the events of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, the Gospel writer John makes clear that he’s only recorded a small portion of the wonderful works of God. He ends his Gospel by saying, ‘Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written’ (John 21:25). What a wonderful statement!

We, as the church, have so many accounts of God’s wonderful acts towards us and through us, as He chooses to work out His purposes through the lives of His people. As well as the Bible, we have access to podcasts, sermons, books, and other resources that point us to Jesus. All around us are stories of God’s good and wonderful works, works that we get to join in with.

In a world filled with bad news stories, we are people of good news. The narratives we dwell on shape our lives. What stories do you have of God’s wonderful deeds, both from Scripture and your life? What stories can you tell yourself and others of God’s wonderful deeds today?

Prayer

Lord God, please help me to be a person of praise today as I reflect on Your many wonderful deeds. Give me courage and opportunity to share about You with people I meet today. Amen.

About this Plan

Small Wonder: A Christmas Devotional Journey

Reflect on the wonder of the incarnation – the infinite life found in the small infant Jesus and how he invites you to do wonderful work with him, right where you are. There were no fanfares when Jesus was born. The surroundings were far from royal: squeezed into a small home in a small, provincial town called Bethlehem. Yet this birth – the most wonderful news of all time – has infinite implications. In this 25-day journey, reflect upon the wonder of the Christmas story and be inspired to join in God’s wonderful work in your everyday life.
