Jesus: The True Light of the World

DAY 7 OF 7

At this time of year, we ought to pay special attention to the miracle of the incarnation. John says, “The Word became flesh.” (John 1:14, NASB95) He goes on to say that Jesus brought the full grace and full truth to the human race. The law was realized through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus. He illuminates the human situation.

That’s what John the Baptist experienced when he pointed and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29, NASB95). But John 1:10 records one of the saddest statements the apostle John wrote: "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him" (NASB95). The actual world, which He made, did not recognize Him.

Then, there is verse 11—another regretful verse in the New Testament: "He came to His own, and those were his own did not receive Him" (NASB95). He came to His own property—the world He owned, that He made—and He came to His own people, and they did not receive Him.

Remember our discussion of the two kinds of people? Here is the most important set.

One group is those who reject Him—the rejecters, the ideologies, the philosophies, all the "isms" of the world that would rather have fake light, false light, and fractional light. These are people who would rather live by a candle that is going to be snuffed out, never to be resurrected again.

John 1:12, NASB95, discusses the second group: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name."

Simultaneous to believing in His name, as many as receive Him, the WorldLight gives them the birthright. Not everybody is a child of God, but you can become a child of God. We are all creatures of God; we are His offspring. But to have a personal relationship with God, you must believe in His name.

He is the true light. He is the full light. He is the real light. The WorldLight gives you a new birthright. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, let us take the time this Christmas season to reflect this light and point others, as John did, to the true Light, which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
