Table Talk

DAY 9 OF 10

Citizens of Another Kingdom

The world feels more divided than ever. Politics, culture, religion—every issue seems to demand that you pick a side and cancel the other. But what if Jesus calls us to a better way?

We are living in an age of deep polarisation. Outrage and extremes dominate public life. Nuance is rare, listening is scarce, and even Christians can be pulled into culture wars or echo chambers. The question is: how do we follow Jesus in a world like this?

The first step is to remember where our ultimate allegiance lies. Paul wrote in Philippians 3:20, “Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (NIV). That truth shifts our perspective. We are not defined first by political parties, social movements, or even national identity. We belong to a Kingdom that is not of this world (John 18:36).

This Kingdom allegiance shapes how we respond. James 1:19 calls us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry (NIV). In a world of shouting, we are called to listen well. In a culture of division, we are called to be peacemakers, stepping into the mess with both truth and grace.

Paul also points us to humility in Philippians 2:3, where he teaches us not to act out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but to value others above ourselves (NIV). That doesn’t mean silence or compromise. It means our words and actions reflect Jesus—firm in truth, but overflowing with love. The world does not need louder opinions; it needs deeper discipleship.

So in this world of extremes, we are called to stand out not by being more extreme, but by being more like Christ. He was unshakable in truth yet full of grace, uncompromising in holiness yet overflowing with mercy. This is the way we are invited to walk.

This week, choose one conversation or space where division is loud. Ask the Spirit to help you respond with humility, wisdom, and Christlike love instead of reacting with extremes.

About this Plan

Table Talk

Jesus shows up at the table — in the middle of real conversations, doubts, and everyday moments. When we slow down, share a meal, and open our hearts, God can bring healing, clarity, and fresh perspective. Let’s make our tables places of connection and hope, where faith feels alive and everyone has a seat.
