Faith Formation Framework Series 1: Faith Shared by Adults

DAY 1 OF 5

The Power of Showing Up

Focus

Breath Prayer: Breathing deeply in and out, repeat the following prayer slowly: “Lord, help me see those who need me.”

Listen

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:8 (NRSV)

So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us."

Reflection:

The Apostle Paul writes as a spiritual parent, not simply a teacher. He reminds us that sharing faith is not just about teaching information—it’s about sharing life. Young people need adults who care enough to enter their world, listen to their stories, and walk alongside them. We sometimes imagine that mentoring means having all the right answers. But most often, it simply means showing up consistently with love, patience, and genuine interest.

Apply

Who is one young person you could "show up" for more regularly in simple ways? Reach out to that person today with an encouraging word.

Respond

Lord, make me aware of the young people around me. Teach me to show up with grace, patience, and a heart willing to walk with them, just as you walk with me.

About this Plan

Faith Formation Framework Series 1: Faith Shared by Adults

Young people need adults who show up for them—not just at church events, but in everyday life. This first part of the Faith Formation Framework invites you to consider how your presence, your listening, and your own growing faith can become a gift to the next generation. We invite you to plan your work with young people in accordance with the safe environment policies of your local faith community. Other than that, you don’t need special credentials—just a willing heart.
