Faith Formation Framework Series 2: Faith Internalized Through Spiritual Practices and Learning

DAY 4 OF 5

Learning the Story

Focus

Gratitude: Thank God for the living story of Scripture, still speaking today.

Listen

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NRSV)
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work."

Reflection:
The Bible is not a static rulebook but a story of God’s relentless love. For many young people, Scripture can feel confusing or even weaponized. They are not yet able to hear the great love story God wants to tell. How can each of us introduce or reintroduce the Bible to them as a witness to God’s mercy and freedom—a story that invites us into God’s redemptive work in the world? As young people encounter the breadth of Scripture—the poetry, the struggle, the prophets’ cries for justice, the suffering of Jesus—they can connect their story with God’s unfolding masterpiece. And we can be witnesses to its power in our own lives: as the Word that helps us not escape the world but engage it with courage and hope.

Apply

How can you help a young person experience Scripture as God’s living story this week?

Respond

Spirit of truth, open our hearts to your Word. Teach us to walk in your story of justice, mercy, and grace. May young people find their place in your ongoing redemption.

About this Plan

Faith Formation Framework Series 2: Faith Internalized Through Spiritual Practices and Learning

A lot of people might say, “I don’t know how to pray. I don’t know what words to say.” However, God gave us eyes, ears, and other senses to perceive the world. Spiritual practices begin with simply paying attention to what God is doing in the world around you and trying to let go of all of the things that would prevent you from seeking God’s will. We don’t need to be experts or poets. Jesus is always waiting for us to spend time with him.
