Understanding Spiritual Warfare: Victory Through God's Presence, Prayer, and Surrender

DAY 29 OF 30

Winning over Weariness by Waiting

Weariness. The word brings up images of slumped shoulders, bowed heads, and downcast eyes. It’s more than tiredness. Tiredness can—and often does—come alongside a sense of satisfaction and feeling of energy well spent in accomplishing something we value.

Weariness, on the other hand, usually means that fatigue has crept into our soul. The work or the trial seems unending and impossibly difficult, and we can feel our morale dropping as discouragement sets in.

If you’re experiencing that, you are not alone. God sees you. And, he has something for you: a divine exchange to lift you above your circumstances.

Isaiah 40:29-31 says, “He gives strength to the weary, and to the one who lacks might He increases power…those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary” (NASB).

Weariness settles in when we try to carry what only God was meant to carry. Isaiah 40:31 doesn’t promise renewal through striving harder but through trusting deeper: “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.”

Psalm 23 says, “He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength” (NLT). Renewal comes when we stop running on empty and choose to rest in his presence. Jesus calls out in Matthew 11:28–29, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” This is more than a break; it is soul-rest that restores the deepest parts of who we are.

If you are weary today, see it as an invitation. God isn’t asking you to push through on your own. He is calling you back to himself. Carve out quiet moments to sit with him, to let his Word and Spirit refill you.

Don’t be in a rush. Wait for the Lord. Yes, you have a lot to do today. So, sit with him until his strength fills you so that you can do it. Resist the temptation to cut your prayer time short and get to work on your to-do list immediately. Wait in God’s presence, listening for his voice and accepting his strength.

He will fill you with joy, peace, and contentment as your heart aligns with his. And you will find your strength renewed.

Reflection Questions

  1. When was the last time your soul felt weary? What did you do?
  2. Are there any areas of your life now where weariness has crept in? When you take the time to wait in his presence and trust, what happens?
