Equipping Others: A Leadership Call to Expand Kingdom Capacity

DAY 1 OF 5

Fully Equipped

When we think about the goal of training, what it is, and if it exists just so that the person may do things better, more efficiently, in less time; or training is so that the person may see more things (higher, broader, wider, and/or deeper), be better equipped for the current challenges, or be ready to fulfill his God-given purpose. Well, this portion of scripture reminds us about the importance of sharing that we are training integral leaders, those who are fully equipped, in all senses, in all matters, in all topics, in all aspects. We know that we will never achieve perfection in people, but we can be intentional in the way we approach the idea of equipping them to excel. The Apostle Paul affirms to his mentee Timothy that he must be well-grounded in the word of God for performing his duties and for him to be able to effectively equip others.

However, the question is to equip others for what? It says, for every good work, for every good endeavor. It means that the kind of training you get not only equips you with all the things that you are supposed to be doing in your current role, but also for the things that you are supposed to face in the future (even though you may not be aware of, or you might not be prepared for). While training is for the present challenges, this future-oriented dimension is called development. The challenges will come your way, and you will have to perform amid them regardless of how challenging they are, and you need the preparation for that. So, from a spiritual perspective, when we equip people with the word of God, we do it for the challenges and the tasks that God has for them, both current and future, and we shall remember that its comprehensive nature always points in a positive and value-adding direction, as it says, “for every good endeavor”.

For Reflection: How intentional am I in allowing God’s Word to shape me not just for what I do now, but for the unseen challenges and purposes He is preparing me for?
