Be Fruitfulনমুনা

SPIRITUAL FRUITS
Jesus gave a commandment that applies to us all: “Go and make disciples.” With these words, our Lord raises the call to be fruitful to another level—a spiritual level.
To be fruitful spiritually also carries great responsibility, for Jesus adds: “Teach them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Thus, it is not something done once and then set aside. It is something to be tended, that it may bear fruit.
The analogy of fruit is also used to describe the character we are to cultivate, as it is written in Galatians: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.”
We are called to bear spiritual fruit and to help others also grow in their spiritual life (Zoe). Every human being possesses Bios, but only the children of God possess Zoe.
Christ came into this world and did this very work with His disciples: He nurtured their spiritual lives. He showed us how it is done—how to be spiritually fruitful. Now it is our turn to carry this out with our friends, our families, and our neighbors.
And at the end He reminds us that in all this labor we are not alone, but that He will be with us, even unto the end of the world.
Questions for reflection:
- When was the last time you helped someone grow in their spiritual life?
- Can you imagine a world where Christians no longer bore spiritual fruit?
