From Sunday Scaries to Sacred Stillnessনমুনা

Rest isn’t just the absence of work or something reserved for where you lay your head. It's found in the presence of God knowing He is with us from the beginning of the day until the very end and while we sleep too. Our culture equates rest with mindless activities that promote zoning out, indulgence, or self-reward. It’s good to relax our minds and enjoy a treat but if we seek the gift more than the Giver then these coping strategies can leave us feeling more depleted.
What if rest was about being restored, not just distracted?
Today, ask yourself: Am I actually resting or just escaping?
Let me show you the contrast.
Have you ever found yourself in what I call the “detox to retox cycle”. It looks something like this: Morning is full of good intentions, daytime is about sweaty workouts followed up with organic health food and evening switches gears and subtly turns into a night of chasing a feeling from the first drink until you collapse into bed with your make up still on.
On the other hand, resting God’s way always fills, nourishes, and strengthens us. It doesn’t leave you with regret or a headache. When you practice true rest, you don’t need wine to unwind. You begin to trust that stillness is safe. That silence can be sacred. Today give yourself permission to be fully present and look for the “God winks” you might miss if you’re not awake in your own life. “Look Alive, Sis” is more than a mantra or a book title, it’s a way of life.
Prayer:
God, help me rest like You designed it—not to numb or escape, but to return to wholeness. Restore my soul today. Show me what true rest looks like—and give me the courage to choose it. Amen.
Journal Prompt:
When I think about “rest,” what comes to mind? What would it look like to create a Sabbath-like space for my body and spirit today?
