DAY 13 – HEART LEAPS FOR JOY
Reflection: In Psalm 28, a psalm of David, the anxious king has gone to the temple to seek God (vs 2), worried about enemies that seem neighbourly, but harbour malice in their heart. As he receives assurance that God has heard his cry for mercy, his anxiety turns to praise, and his heart leaps with joy.
We’ve all been let down by those we thought were on our side, and, sadly, we’ve probably done the same to others. But joy returns when we remember that a merciful God never lets us down. In fact, Jesus gave his life for us as a sign that God will stop at nothing to save us.
As a warrior king, David links the restoration of joy to God’s strength, his shield-like protection, and his salvation, which is like a fortress. But as one who grew up as a shepherd boy, David also knows the tenderness of God, who carries us in his arms. May your heart leap with joy as you praise him every day.
Choose joy: Look for God’s love in the situations you encounter in life. And make time to sing his praises.

About this Plan

Welcome to Choose Joy, a 50 day devotional encounter with joy in the Bible, as together we reflect on the joy that only God can give. Our prayer is that this joy will become a deep and abiding, Spirit-enabled source of strength in our lives, whatever we may face.
