WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17নমুনা

Isaiah Gives Ahaz the Bad News
In today’s Old Testament reading, we see a dark and difficult period of regional conflict involving King Ahaz of the kingdom of Judah, and the kings of Ephraim, Egypt, Syria, and Assyria. Civil and military strife is roiling the struggle for power and control in the region. Isaiah is giving a reluctant and hard-headed Ahaz a glimpse into the future of his kingdom, where defeat and desolation will be the result of the detestable practices of Ahaz; turning to other gods, worshipping Baal, disdaining the God of Israel, and turning temple practices on their ear. The prophecy of the desolation of Judah sadly came to pass with the Assyrian invasion after the Syria-Israel wars were decided. The Messianic view of these verses is as a reckoning cleansing from all idolatry and detestable practices as God is establishing his eternal Kingdom.
The Fall of Judas and the Sacrament of Communion
The sad story of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas is recorded here by Dr. Luke with brutal brevity. The Darkness had already laid the plans to crucify him. Luke removes any doubt when, in verse 3, he states directly, “Satan entered Judas Iscariot…” (NLT) With the full knowledge of what is to come, Jesus calls the twelve, Judas included, to share in the Last Supper. Jesus had timeless instructions for us as disciples to partake and remember the priceless sacrifice of his Body and Blood, broken for us and shed for the forgiveness of our sins. The beauty and unity of the communion of believers is what binds us together throughout the world, even throughout time, in the love of Jesus Christ.

About this Plan

In this 17th installment of Reading with the People of God, we continue following a lectionary rhythm—Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan explores the prophetic voices of Micah, Habakkuk, and Isaiah, who confronted kings and warned of coming judgment while pointing to the hope of the Messiah. Alongside these, we'll read from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, tracing the life of Christ and the birth of the Church. As we read these powerful passages in parallel, may the Spirit shape us and grow us in Christ together.
