Dare to dream of peace among nations
“They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Micah 4:3 ESV)
The Bible contains a lot of prophecies. Many of them consist of warnings. God let people know that they were wrong in their attitudes toward Him or toward each other. He also announced punishments. But there are also prophecies of restoration and hope. When the prophet Micah writes about “the latter days," he paints a glorious future. Many nations will come to Israel, to serve the Lord God together. They will no longer be at war with one another, but will live together in peace. God will be their king forever and ever.
What an amazing perspective! And this is not just a mirage. It is a promise from God Himself. Therefore, in the midst of all the conflicts and wars raging in the world, we can keep hope for peace. There will come a day when no weapons are made anymore. They will no longer be needed to attack or to defend oneself. For there will be true, lasting peace.
Until then, God asks of us, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” (Romans 12:18 ESV) If we do so, His ideal is already becoming a reality on a small scale.
Do you long for peace? How can you make a practical commitment to it?

About this Plan

In daily life, it is often helpful to be down to earth. But God also encourages us to keep dreaming — dreaming of His Kingdom of peace, justice and light.
