Living Above Labels

DAY 1 OF 4

Alone at the Well

Have you ever felt like an outcast, misunderstood, labeled, or rejected because of something you did…or something that was done to you?

If you’re anything like me, you may carry shame from your past without even realizing it. You can’t always name it, but deep down, you question if you’re truly lovable, acceptable, or enough.

One of my favorite women in Scripture is the Samaritan woman. We’re never told her name in John 4, but her story speaks volumes. She had been married five times, and the man she lived with wasn’t her husband. She came to the well alone, during a time of day when most women wouldn’t be there. Was her physical isolation a mirror of the loneliness in her heart?

I wonder if she had grown tired of pretending. Maybe she moved through her daily routines while silently craving something more, something deeper than the temporary comfort of relationships. Perhaps, like so many of us, she was searching for love in places that only left her emptier.

Though others may have discarded her, Jesus didn’t. He saw past the labels and scars. He met her at the well, not to shame her, but to restore her.

Sister, the same is true for you.

Jesus isn’t afraid of your story. He knows your heart. You are not the sum of your past; you are the reflection of His grace.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for seeing me when I feel unseen and loving me when I feel unworthy. Help me to release the shame I’ve carried and receive the truth of who I am in You, a daughter deeply loved and never forgotten. Heal the places in me that still hurt, and remind me that Your grace is greater than my past. Amen.

Reflection:
What does Jesus’ loving welcome of the Samaritan woman say to your heart about how He sees you today?
