Grow Through It: 7 Healing Practices That Cultivate Resilience a 7-Day Reading Plan by Essie Fayeনমুনা

Connect With God–Practice Living with Humility
James 4:6 NKJV
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
I made a mistake. I had pure intentions and a prayerful heart, yet I was wrong. I spoke too soon and hurt a very good friend with what I’d said.
Making mistakes can teach us valuable lessons. It can be compared to germination, or the sprouting of a seed after a period of dormancy. Dormancy can appear to be a time of stagnation or error. Yet, growth can emerge from a mistake. We are human, prone to error, and it’s okay. We’re not perfect, and God doesn’t expect us to be. He knows our flaws and gives us grace for our mistakes.
It’s time that we practice living with humility and give ourselves grace, too, as we walk through difficult times. When life becomes too much for us, we have a Heavenly Father who we can depend on. Scripture declares that in our weakness we find strength in God. He demonstrates His power in our weakness. In our weakness and vulnerability, we acknowledge our need for God’s presence and power in our lives.
Practicing humility permits growth. This looks like acknowledging when we are wrong and becoming teachable and ever-learning from the lessons of life. Humility stabilizes us and enables us to grow strong roots of faith that anchor us and enable God to provide grace in every area of our lives. We should practice humility as a way of life. When we acknowledge our weaknesses, we can lean into the strength provided by the Almighty God.
According to James 4:6, pride hinders our blessings from God, but humility causes us to receive the gift of grace. Grace is the God-given ability to do what God requires. It is the power to stand in the strength of God in order to fulfill His will and purpose.
Father God, I need Your presence, power, and grace to live each day with humility, acknowledging Your preeminence in my life.
Grow Through It: What would it look like to practice humility daily? How would being clothed with humility impact our relationship with ourselves, with God, and others?
Those who practice humility are teachable, ever learning, and growing deep roots in faith just like a planted tree.
