The Journey of Yesনমুনা

WHY NOT TRUST GOD?
If we could hold on to the reality that life with Jesus is a journey and not a destination, we would relinquish our lives to Him far more willingly. Our concern with the where would be overshadowed by the who. Not worrying about perfection but keeping our eyes on walking with Jesus prevents us from becoming distracted by the unknown and instead directs our focus toward what we do know, which is that we are never alone.
Saying yes without knowing all the details creates an opportunity to grow in our faith and develop our trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
The opposite of trusting the Lord with all my heart is leaning on my own understanding. The concerns revealed in our questions sometimes indicate that we are scrambling to gain our own understanding instead of trusting the Lord.
One of the pep talks I often give myself includes the question “Why not trust God?”
If we don’t settle into a position of trust, our lives will consistently be uprooted by the unknown and we will ultimately be delayed in reaching our destination. If God is all knowing, we can develop an ability to trust Him even when we don’t know all the answers.
The second part of the passage above reminds us that if we include Him in every area of our lives, not just the ones we are comfortable with, then He will make clear which path we should take. This doesn’t mean we will have all the answers or even know where it will lead, but we can trust that God will direct our way. He leads us only to Him, and in Him is where we experience life beyond our fears.
Of course we don’t just wake up one day and reach this place of saying yes so easily. It starts with leaning into the Holy Spirit, our advocate and daily companion. He is the one who leads us into all truth (John 16:13).
What areas of perplexity or uncertainty do you need to ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate for you?
