 <div class="label">17</div><div class="s2">The House of the Lord</div><div class="p"> 1Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains. 2Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.</div><div class="p"> 3And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: 5for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. 6Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars? 7Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel: 8and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth. 9Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, 10and since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house. 11And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever. 13I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: 14but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore. 15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.</div><div class="p"> 16And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? 17And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God. 18What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant. 19O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things. 20O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt? 22For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. 23Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said. 24Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee. 25For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee. 26And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: 27now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.</div>

 <div class="label">15</div><div class="q1"> 1A soft answer turneth away wrath:</div><div class="q2">But grievous words stir up anger.</div><div class="q1"> 2The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright:</div><div class="q2">But the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.</div><div class="q1"> 3The eyes of the LORD are in every place,</div><div class="q2">Beholding the evil and the good.</div><div class="q1"> 4A wholesome tongue is a tree of life:</div><div class="q2">But perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.</div><div class="q1"> 5A fool despiseth his father's instruction:</div><div class="q2">But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.</div><div class="q1"> 6In the house of the righteous is much treasure:</div><div class="q2">But in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.</div><div class="q1"> 7The lips of the wise disperse knowledge:</div><div class="q2">But the heart of the foolish doeth not so.</div><div class="q1"> 8The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD:</div><div class="q2">But the prayer of the upright is his delight.</div><div class="q1"> 9The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD:</div><div class="q2">But he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.</div><div class="q1"> 10Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way:</div><div class="q2"> And he that hateth reproof shall die.</div><div class="q1"> 11Hell and destruction are before the LORD:</div><div class="q2">How much more then the hearts of the children of men?</div><div class="q1"> 12A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him:</div><div class="q2">Neither will he go unto the wise.</div><div class="q1"> 13A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:</div><div class="q2">But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.</div><div class="q1"> 14The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge:</div><div class="q2">But the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.</div><div class="q1"> 15All the days of the afflicted are evil:</div><div class="q2">But he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.</div><div class="q1"> 16Better is little with the fear of the LORD</div><div class="q2">Than great treasure and trouble therewith.</div><div class="q1"> 17Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,</div><div class="q2">Than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.</div><div class="q1"> 18A wrathful man stirreth up strife:</div><div class="q2">But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.</div><div class="q1"> 19The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns:</div><div class="q2">But the way of the righteous is made plain.</div><div class="q1"> 20A wise son maketh a glad father:</div><div class="q2">But a foolish man despiseth his mother.</div><div class="q1"> 21Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom:</div><div class="q2">But a man of understanding walketh uprightly.</div><div class="q1"> 22Without counsel purposes are disappointed:</div><div class="q2">But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.</div><div class="q1"> 23A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:</div><div class="q2">And a word spoken in due season, how good is it!</div><div class="q1"> 24The way of life is above to the wise,</div><div class="q2">That he may depart from hell beneath.</div><div class="q1"> 25The LORD will destroy the house of the proud:</div><div class="q2">But he will establish the border of the widow.</div><div class="q1"> 26The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD:</div><div class="q2">But the words of the pure are pleasant words.</div><div class="q1"> 27He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house;</div><div class="q2">But he that hateth gifts shall live.</div><div class="q1"> 28The heart of the righteous studieth to answer:</div><div class="q2">But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.</div><div class="q1"> 29The LORD is far from the wicked:</div><div class="q2">But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.</div><div class="q1"> 30The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart:</div><div class="q2"> And a good report maketh the bones fat.</div><div class="q1"> 31The ear that heareth the reproof of life</div><div class="q2">Abideth among the wise.</div><div class="q1"> 32He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul:</div><div class="q2">But he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.</div><div class="q1"> 33The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom;</div><div class="q2">And before honour is humility.</div><div class="b"></div>

And he desired to see him.</div><div class="s2">Feeding Five Thousand</div><div class="p"> 10And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. 12And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. 13But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. 14For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. 15And they did so, and made them all sit down. 16Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.</div><div class="s2">The Great Confession</div><div class="p"> 18And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? 19They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 20He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. 21And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; 22saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.</div><div class="p"> 23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. 27But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.</div><div class="s2">The Transfiguration</div><div class="p"> 28And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.</div><div class="p"> </div>
