Worshipful congregation Angels have the ability to exercise individual willpower. They are not robotically controlled from a giant radar dish somewhere. They choose to be in service to God. Those who chose to rebel and seek life without God were granted their wish and expelled from God’s presence. These demons now huddle with Satan in hell and try to destroy as much of God’s creation as they can before time runs out. They know they are doomed, and that just drives them more feverishly to their dirty work. But those angels who chose to stay enjoy the daily thrill of the glory and peace that radiate from God’s throne. They delight in the beauty and light and peace of heaven. Like us on earth, they love to worship God: “All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: ‘Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!’” (Revelation 7:11,12). The saints who have passed away now get to join that angelic chorus for their worship times in God’s immediate presence, and soon you and I will shuffle off the stage and join them. The angels genuinely appreciate God’s mighty acts in history and love the love coming from his face. So do we.
