Aaron Shust - Love Made a Way - The Overflow Devo

DAY 6 OF 7

My Savior My God I once had the opportunity to meet a speaker I greatly respect. We’ll call him Trey. Trey was speaking at an event and I was privileged to sing a couple songs before he spoke. I was in my dressing room when someone knocked on the door, motioned for me to step into the hallway, and told me they wanted to introduce me to Trey. We entered another dressing room where he and a few other people were standing around, meeting, laughing and reminiscing. Our mutual friend found an appropriate moment and said, “Trey, this is Aaron Shust, he’ll be singing tonight.” We shook hands and Trey was very cordial and polite with me: a stranger in his room. I struggled for a moment to think of something to say besides, “I like how you speak very much sir!”, but soon decided how to make a better connection in order to break the ice existent in any new encounter. “I’m good friends with your son”, I said. “He’s become one of my favorite people.” His face suddenly changed from one of kind politeness (which is a highly recommended way to meet people) to one of warmth and acceptance! It was as if Trey were thinking, “This guy knows my son! My son approves of this guy! So...if my son thinks Aaron’s okay, he’s okay with me!” Without the relationship with his son, my relationship with Trey would not have moved beyond mere acknowledgement. Without a relationship with Jesus, the Son of God, our relationship with God the Father is absolutely non-existent. But if we confess our sins, He forgives our sins! He cleanses us from all unrighteousness!* Jesus stands at the right hand of the Father and says of us, “I know this person. This one is with Me.”
