Slow Down and Listen
Be still, and know that I am God. PSALM 46:10 NIV
I used to think that when God said “be still,” He didn’t mean me. I’m like the Energizer Bunny; I’m hyper and enthusiastic and always running around. I’m a cheerleader for Jesus! I’m no good on the sidelines, right? “Put me in, Coach! I can help!” But He said to me, “Be still, and know that I am God.” If I can slow down, so can you.
Sometimes we have to slow down amid the hustle and bustle of our everyday life so we can be still enough to hear Him. Sometimes in life, we are forced to slow down (for instance, when you break your leg or get sick). During these times, we have no choice but to rest. And it drives us nuts! We long to return to “normal.” But what are we rushing back for? A calendar bursting at the seams, a volunteer gig you took out of obligation, a relationship that wasn’t as meaningful as you once thought? Sometimes we need to slow down and create enough margin in our lives so we can enjoy the rest and prepare for where God will lead us next.
