Nehemiah’s burden for Jerusalem started in December. He began to pray and seek the wisdom of God. Four months passed. Nehemiah didn’t move into action right away. December. January. February. March. Nehemiah prayed and fasted. Maybe he was testing to see if the burden would go away. Maybe he wanted to be certain this was God speaking to him. But, we do know Nehemiah did not run towards action or away from praying and fasting.
When you have a burden, do you try and move to action quickly? Maybe you say a few quick prayers, run it past a few people and then go for it. Nehemiah teaches us to slow down. Consistency in prayer should always lead to clarity and confidence in God’s plan. Where do you need to re-engage in prayer today? What areas of your life do you need more clarity in? What are you willing to commit to pray for during the next four months?
