Read the Book: Summer Bible Plan

DAY 37 OF 91

2 KINGS 18:9-19:37 - LEGACY If your life had to be summarized with just one line, what would it be? “She was kind and giving.” “He played lots of video games.” “She had great clothes.” “He was faithful and trustworthy.” A few short words record the final legacy of a life. Though it’s never fun to think about, our decisions indeed have consequences; and sometimes those consequences last more than just our lifetime. If you’re like me, then you’ve made plenty of decisions in your life that were both good and bad, with consequences that were more impactful and far-reaching than others. Maybe you believe, as I have in the past, that your decisions and associated consequences have created circumstances that cannot be changed. Thankfully, we are adopted by the Father who creates mighty oaks from the ashes of destruction! In this account of King Hezekiah of Judah, we see negative and positive consequences, and how circumstances can be changed. When Hezekiah came to power, Judah was virtually a vassal state under Assyria, a consequence of decisions made by Judah’s kings before him. After a failed rebellion against the king of Assyria, he was faced with impending retribution. However, Hezekiah did what was right in the Lord’s sight and followed His commands. Because of his deep trust in God, Judah was saved and the king of Assyria later perished. Hezekiah’s legacy remains as one of the greatest kings of Judah. Father, humble me. Give me diligent faithfulness to dwell in Your Word and wisdom to bring all matters before You in sincere prayer. Amen Family Connection: Take time as a family this week to brainstorm what each member wants their legacy to be. Talk about how each of our decisions have consequences and can impact our legacy. King Hezekiah did what was right in the Lord’s sight and therefore has a legacy of being a great king. What is one thing you could do this week to please God?
