DAY 5 OF 31

“They were continually devoting themselves...” -Acts 2:42 Continually. Steadfast. Never-ending. How often do we do something over and over? I don’t mean just something from muscle memory or something that is second nature, but intentionally repetitive ? For me the answer is not often. If I’m being real, I do not wake up every single day and think, “I must continually devote myself to God, His teachings, His plan for me, and walking with Him.” Some days I just wake up and go through the motions. I am aware of God. I know what He has called me to do (at least most of it). But continually, steadfastly, never-ending? That’s a hard one. The Greek verb for “continually” translates to a steadfast and single-minded faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continued loyalty and support, in order to maintain a certain course of action. In other words, we focus so much on one thing that there is no distraction, departure, or interruption from the path. You could say that back then it was easy for the apostles to continually devote themselves to Jesus and His teachings. They understood that more than anyone. Today, it’s just too hard. We tend to wander mentally, physically, and even spiritually. But not only do we want to know God more, He wants to know us more, too. If God wants us to become closer to Him, we cannot just sit back and say, “God! I want to know you. I’m going to sit here and soak it all up. Let me know when you’re ready.” We must be the ones to take charge, formulate a growth plan, and go all in. Continually seek Him. Continually be devoted to Him. Continually be all in.
