Love God Greatly - Made for Community

DAY 19 OF 54

In Paul’s letter to Titus, he lists basic teaching for the wives in Greece. He states that the older women are to be role models for the younger women. The hope is that the younger women would follow the pattern of the older women becoming self-controlled and pure, kind, submissive, supportive, while investing in their households. In this passage, we see the priority that God places on the home. We also see how highly He esteems the woman’s role in creating a holy and pure environment for her husband and children. Family is an important institution established by God, therefore it makes sense that it should reflect His design for the family. The women are to reflect habits and actions that glorify God. These women have been molded into women of virtue, righteousness, and respectability through modeling of older women, but also through the inward changes made by the Holy Spirit. Many women, including myself, have tried to take on the Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 characteristics of perfection in our own strength and will. We may appear to succeed for a short while, but long term, we fail. If we truly read the passage we see that it is only through the Lord’s leading and daily influence in these women’s lives that they are able to maintain these virtues. The only thing that’s perfect about these women …is God within her. Father God, thank You that in You, all things are possible. We thank You, Lord, that in You, we can be our ideal selves. We thank You, Lord, that we don’t have to focus on “appearing” perfect, because in You, we already have been made perfect. We thank You, Lord, for loving us first, loving us the most, and loving us just as we are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
