Human beings started life with God in Paradise in the Garden of Eden. And they will end up together again in the paradise of Heaven. Heaven is more about a person than a place. It’s always been about our relationships, being with those we love. The re-creation of a new heaven and new earth will be available to us to enjoy forever with God. If you accept Jesus as your savior and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, then this will not just the best day ever; it will be the best day forever! The story of God’s interaction with humanity in the Bible brings everything full circle in the book of Revelation. When God’s people join him in heaven, they won’t need to grow in our faith any longer because their faith will be complete. They will be redeemed, and they will get to spend eternity with God there. How does knowing the ultimate fate of humanity affect you? I hope it gives you a sense of urgency. If you’re spiritually unresolved, I hope you will accept the invitation of Jesus to save you from your sin. If you’re a follower of Christ, I hope it makes you intentional in your desire to develop a grown-up faith and to share that faith with others as a witness, knowing that God wants to save them and will if they ask him to. The bigger life everyone wants—a life of rich relationships, good marriages, strong families, rewarding careers, and stable emotions—is built on God’s worldview, a perspective rooted in eternity. It’s lived out under the new covenant offered by Jesus. It joins God’s purpose fueled by God’s power. You can have grown-up faith.
