Paul was on the path of righteousness, following God and staying close to Holy Spirit. Yet, he experienced a storm, a shipwreck, and then he was faced with a snake. God gave him grace to survive the storm and the shipwreck, but when it came to the snake, something else happened. While it was raining, Paul gathered sticks to build a fire. Don’t let your storm and your shipwreck make you passive, or stop you from kindling fire within your soul for the Lord. Do not let past drama and trauma make you cold towards God and retreat into living on the memories of the good old days. God wants you to burn today, for He is the Great I Am, not the Great I Was. If you remember a time when you loved Jesus more than today, you have backslidden When fire is burning in your life, everything is amazing, even if it comes after a storm and a shipwreck. But wait, this fire in Paul’s life exposed a snake. That snake came out and did not just attack Paul, but fastened onto his hand with the intent to stay there and kill him. It’s crazy how often this happens when you start living out your Christian faith, walking in freedom, and burning for the Lord. Boom! Out of nowhere, you fall or something hits you – and the snake bites you hard, not letting go. Learn to shake off the guilt, shame, and lies when you are attacked. The Devil wants to kill your fire. What you ought to do instead is throw those temptations and trials into the fire, and they will die. Do not stop burning and doing what you were doing before the attack. That is what the Devil wants. One of the reasons why people die from spiritual snake bites is because they do not have enough of a fire in their life to throw that viper into. You cannot throw your issues into my firepit, you need to build your own. You cannot throw your viper into your pastor’s fire, you have to have your own. Turn your heart into a fireplace, stop making it a trashcan where anything and everything goes. You are a temple of Holy Spirit, not a tomb for a dead man’s bones.
