Worldview: A Study on Biblical Thinking and Lifestyle

DAY 2 OF 9

Day Two: Worldview Is a Lifelong Journey into Truth

We are all on a worldview journey. As we begin on the path of discovering our worldview, we start out influenced. There are moments of interception when we are confronted with opposing perspectives, and we must decide how to respond. If we choose to align our thinking with the Word of God, we set our course guided by the truth and can embark on the process of truly integrating it into our lives. Thus, we begin to live by design rather than by default.

Examining our worldview and learning how to think (not what to think) requires asking a lot of questions! Three main questions determine our view of reality:

  1. What do we believe about the nature of God?
  2. What do we believe about the nature of man?
  3. What do we believe about the nature of truth?

For example, if you recognize the existence of God but believe He is not actively involved in human lives, you will tend to rely on yourself more than God in your decision-making. If you believe man was created by design as opposed to evolutionary chance, you’ll likely live with more purpose and intention. If you don’t believe in absolute truth, you will easily be swayed by popular opinions. These underlying beliefs may seem philosophical and abstract, but they significantly influence how people live their lives and shape their moral values.

In Western culture, we often frame choices in terms of “right and wrong” (or “honorable versus shameful” in the case of many Eastern cultures). Yet, the Bible more often presents issues in the context of “life and death.” Certain thought paths and decisions will reap death or disaster, physically or spiritually, while others will bring life that is meaningful and eternal. As we search for answers to life’s big questions, God’s Word teaches us how to experience blessing, prosperity, and life more abundantly.

Thought of the Day: Cultivating a Christian worldview requires an ongoing commitment to developing a set of tools and resources for navigating decisions, choices, conflicts, relationships, and life itself.
