[Wisdom of Solomon] Five Cups of Tea With Mom

DAY 4 OF 6

Eyes On Jesus

Would you call yourself a focused person? Are you the type to be easily distracted? There are so many things in this world that distract us, such as the never-ending notifications on our phones or the constant dings, bells, and whistles. At the root of it, we want to be in the know and never miss out on anything. Our many distractions also cause us to seek after things that won’t please us, to try to put something on the throne of our hearts that don't belong, rather than God. Today’s cup of tea is here to remind you that when your focus is on Jesus, the lure and enticement of the world loses its power. You may not realize this, but every moment you are not pursuing the Lord is a moment you’re potentially drifting away from Him. There isn’t a middle ground when it comes to being a disciple of Jesus. The enemy wants you to be distracted; he wants to choke the joy out of you. It takes wisdom to know when you are losing focus. Distraction has ripple effects that will hurt us and those around us. One of those effects is our inability to be truly present with our friends, family, and ultimately God.

When you are truly present and can focus on what’s important, your legacy and impact will be impossible to measure, but when you aren’t focused and involved, this could be detrimental to those around you. The goal is not to focus on your legacy and impact; instead, focus on Jesus. If loving Jesus is the number one goal in your life, everything else will follow. You will naturally want to spend time with your kids, family, and friends, being genuinely present with them, knowing that God is always present with us. Through Jesus, we now have access to the Father, and we can talk with Him anytime and know He is listening and working. You may not realize it, but many eyes are on you—at home, at work, and even God's eyes are upon you. When we live wisely, and when God’s priorities are our priorities, we will have a lasting impact on God’s kingdom and those around us, an impact that will outlive us.

Thought for today: What are your eyes fixed upon? Is God at the center of your life? Ask the Lord to help you to stay focused when the world is trying to distract you.
