God, Sex, and Your Marriage

DAY 1 OF 7

Why God Cares About Your Sexuality

For many Christians, sex seems like an area of their lives or marriages that God has very little to say about. As long as they follow the “rules” of sex, they assume that God keeps His distance as they navigate the challenges of marital sexuality.

Friend, nothing could be further from the truth. God created sex. He crafted the male and female bodies with the capacity for pleasure, intimacy, and vulnerability. He, in fact, created the orgasm. This was not Satan’s idea.

Before sin entered the world, Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden “naked and unashamed.” This was the beginning of marriage and the one-flesh relationship between a man and a woman.

What do you think it looks like to glorify God in your sex life? Over the past ten years of ministry, I’ve learned that this can be a very confusing question to answer. Most people have learned to think about sex either from a secular cultural perspective (sex is all about my personal fulfillment and pleasure) or a rule-based purity perspective (sex is about following God’s rules).

In this devotional plan, you are going to learn about a different framework from which to understand sex in your marriage. No matter what difficulties you might be navigating, God can redeem your sex life, and you can steward it in a way that brings glory to God!

  1. What do you think it means to glorify God through your sexual relationship?
  2. In what ways have you learned to separate God from your sexual choices and experiences?
