Fathering: A 4-Day Prayer and Parenting Guide

DAY 2 OF 4

Supporting Fathering with Prayer

by Temi Michael-O

One of the roles of mothers is to support fathering and vice versa. Most times, mothers and fathers adopt parenting styles based on their family background or childhood experience. Differences in parenting ideology may lead to conflict. Prayer is one of the best ways to resolve disputes in parenthood. When we insist on our ways, we give strife a place in our home. When we pray concerning fathering styles and cover fathers in our lives with prayer, we give peace a place in our home. If we truly love our children, we would set aside our differences and do what is best for them (Proverbs 17:1; Mark 3:25).

Today, Let’s pray God’s Word over our children's father.

Heavenly Father, thank you for my children’s father. In the name of Jesus, fill my children’s father with compassion for our children and teach him not to provoke our children to anger. Empower him to do what is right and just, and bring up our children in your training and instruction. Give him the wisdom to direct our children and this household to keep your ways. Teach my children’s father how to discipline our children in ways that would not harm them, but strengthen their relationship and knowledge of who you are as a Father.

Please meditate on the following scriptures:

Psalm 103:13 (NIV)

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Genesis 18:19 (NIV)

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.

Proverbs 13:24 (NIV)

Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.

Proverbs 19:18 (NIV)

Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
