Momentum: How to Get UnstuckSample
Suppose nothing in your circumstances changes. You stay stuck. Health concerns remain. Pressures from home tighten. Work dictates you conduct your duties at the status quo. You’re limited in all respects. Frankly, that’s where many of us sit. What can help us rise out of this emotional muck and mire?
Change your thinking.
Early in Israel’s history, God calls the people to do very much the same. The Law commanded they enter the Lord’s presence at certain times of the year for two reasons: to feast and to rejoice. They were to focus, not on the hardships but on how God had blessed them.
We find similar instructions from Paul in the New Testament (Colossians 3:17).
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
No longer are we limited to certain occasions during the year. “Whatever” is quite encompassing. I can wash my hair in the name of the Lord and paint the garage. I can give thanks for the time to spend with those around me, as well as for the opportunity to clean up after them. “Whatever” reminds me that God is not so much into the minutia consuming me as the heart compelling me.
Often, we do not have grateful hearts, so we stay stuck in our negative thinking staring at the ceiling. But the Psalmist possesses a heart that is thankful. And he knows how to express it. We can utilize the Word of God to move our hearts away from focusing on the endless spiral of doomsday drifting to reflect God’s heart.
There is a path for you to get unstuck today. It begins and ends with Jesus. Sure, you can find other tips online. Amid the twenty-five suggestions I found was one to have a Get it Together Day, itemizing another forty things I could do to get unstuck. By the time I read number twenty-seven, I felt more stuck and frazzled than before.
Stick with these five. Not only can you accomplish these in a day, but you can also practice these EVERY DAY.
1. Get Away Just Like Jesus
2. Read the Book
3. Find Your Focus
4. Look Beyond Yourself, and
