But Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’ ”

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’ ”

Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil. After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” So they immediately left their nets and followed him.

From that time Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
