Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. The other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a powerful earthquake that shook the prison from top to bottom. All at once the prison doors flew open and everyone’s chains came loose.

When the jailer woke up and saw that the prison doors were open, he pulled out his sword to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, “Don’t hurt yourself! We’re all here!”
