Buamu - Bwamu
Buamu (Ouarkoye) (box) Burkina Faso Buamu is spoken by approximately 186,000 people in the Kossi region, Mouhoun, Tuy, Banwa, and Les Balés provinces of Burkina Faso. The language is also known as Bouamou, Bwamu, Eastern Bobo Oule, Eastern Bobo Wule, and Red Bobo. Ouarkoye is a dialect of Buamu. The language is classified as Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, North, Gur, Central, Northern, Bwamu. The name for the people is Bwa; Buama is the language name. It is used for all purposes by all ages. Buamu speakers also speak Jula or French. An active literacy program and radio broadcasts are ongoing. Written materials include Bible portions. The writing system uses Latin script.
