Defeating Fear

DAY 2 OF 5

Believe that God Is Present

David wrote that no matter where he went, heaven, earth, or the depths, God was there. The presence of God is our greatest comfort in the face of fear. Not too long ago, I went wakesurfing for the first time. Like most things we do for the first time, there was a hesitancy in me. I didn’t realize it was fear until I noticed the what-if questions that popped into my mind. “What if there’s a shark in those waters? What if the Loch Ness monster carries me down to the depths of the ocean and I never see the surface again? I was focusing on everything that could be in those waters rather than realizing the God that has always been with me. My feelings were getting the better of me. We don’t have to feel His nearness to trust it; we just have to believe His Word. When fear whispers, “You’re on your own,” God’s presence declares, “I am with you always.”

A.W. Tozer once said, “True and absolute freedom is only found in the presence of God.” Fear loses power when we remember that truth.

Respond to God’s Word:

Invite God into a specific area where you’ve been afraid. Say aloud, “God, You are here.” Let His presence replace panic with peace.

About this Plan

Defeating Fear

Fear doesn’t have to define you. Defeating Fear will help you trade anxiety for peace and fear for faith through Scripture, reflection, and practical action. Each day reminds you that God is present, His power is greater than your worries, and faith in Jesus is stronger than any fear.
