Day 1: Promise Beneath the Stars

“He took him outside and said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.' Then he said to him, 'So shall your offspring be.'" (Genesis 15:5 NIV)

This was the night a holy covenant was made, a promise faithfully upheld by the Lord our God. What began beneath the stars as a physical family chosen to receive a blessing was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who extended the promise to all who believe, inviting us into the spiritual family of the Kingdom of God.

This promise included a home, a land of inheritance, and a purpose, to be a blessing to all nations (Genesis 12:1–3; Genesis 15:18–20; Genesis 22:18).

Beloved, you are welcome in that same family through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:29 NIV). He crossed the deep void that separated humanity from God, restoring the intimacy of divine love and buying us back from the darkness.

Not only did God have a plan to bring light into the darkness, He promised us eternity in a glorious home with room for all (John 14:3). And He commissioned Abraham’s descendants to carry that light, to multiply its radiance like stars across the heavens, sharing the Good News and extending the invitation far and wide.

As you stand beneath the starry night sky, look up and see the unending love of God written across the heavens. Each star glimmers like a jewel of His creation, each one known and cherished. “Because you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you” (Isaiah 43:4a NIV). Just as He calls the stars by name, He knows the names and stories of every soul He created (Psalm 147:4).
