God Our Promise Keeper: A 5-Day Devotional Journey Through Advent

DAY 5 OF 5

Simply put, our world—you and I, all of it—is broken.

We want to live rightly, but how can we when the darkness is so strong?

Yes, the world is dark. It is evil. All of that is real.

But it is not final.

Do you know why?

Because our God is in the redemption business. He creates beauty from ashes. He takes the chaotic darkness and orders it into glorious light.

Jesus Christ won victory over sin on our behalf and He is ushering in an eternal kingdom of light, beauty, truth, and justice.

It exists both here and now in you and me as we receive Him into our lives and place our faith and trust in Him, and it has yet to come to full fruition.

The revelation and salvation of God for us have appeared in the person of Jesus. In His humble birth, His humble life, His humble death, His triumphant resurrection, and–ultimately–in His triumphant return.

So, let’s remember and celebrate the promises fulfilled in Christ’s birth and live–really live–in bold, eager expectation for the final promise to be fulfilled.

“The dark night wakes,
and glory breaks;
The Child was born for us,
Gloria"

Excerpt From “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

A Question to Ponder: As you reflect on God's faithfulness in keeping His promises through Jesus' first coming, where in your life do you need to depend on the hope of His promised return—trusting Him completely—while you wait?

A Prayer to Pray: Lord God, what more can I say but thank you. Thank you that you entered our darkness in order to bring us back to your light. Thank you that you suffered for us. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for loving me. Continue to incline my heart toward yourself. Work the knowledge of all the promises you have fulfilled deep down into my core and let that knowledge fuel my trust in you as I eagerly await your eternal kingdom. I love you, Lord. Help me love you more. In Jesus’s name and power, I pray, amen.

About this Plan

God Our Promise Keeper: A 5-Day Devotional Journey Through Advent

Join us in this Advent devotional journey as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and look forward with hope to His promised return. Over these readings, we will reflect on the wonder of Christ’s first coming, God made flesh to dwell among us, and the assurance of His second coming, when He will make all things new. Each day will include a passage from the Christmas narrative, an Old Testament passage fulfilled or alluded to in Christ’s birth, and a passage from Revelation to help us look ahead to His coming kingdom.
