30 Days With the PsalmsНамуна

Opening your heart for God
“Prove me, O LORD, and try me;
test my heart and my mind” (Psalm 26:2 ESV).
God knows our hearts. For David, this is not a disturbing thought. He has nothing to hide. He knows that he walks in integrity and trusts the Lord. He even explicitly asks God to prove and try him. Not just his public appearance, but his heart and mind as well.
That David has no secrets from God does not mean that he is perfect or that he does not need God’s help. He does not claim that God will find him sinless, or that he has his life under control. On the contrary, further on in this psalm he asks: “Redeem me, and be gracious to me” (Psalm 26:11 ESV). David knows that the only way to live with God and receive His mercy, is by devoting one’s entire life to Him. And David gladly does so.
Do you open your heart to God? Do you invite Him to try and correct you? Or are there still dark corners in your heart that you would rather hide from Him?
