God's Greatest Gift

Whenever you’re facing trouble, fear, or discouragement, it’s time to remind yourself of who you are in Christ and what already belongs to you in Him. Psalm 103:2 admonishes us to not forget all His benefits, or gifts. And God’s greatest gift to you is the gift of salvation. Just think about your life before you were saved!

Just the knowledge that you’ll spend eternity with Him is enough to give you hope and peace like nothing else can (John 3:16). But there’s so much more included in salvation. The original Greek word for salvation is sozo and it includes rescue, healing, wholeness, protection, and deliverance–every day of your life! It’s a complete package of everything Jesus paid for at the cross.

Salvation isn’t something you had to earn or deserve–none of us could ever be “good” enough. Salvation through Christ is a precious gift that comes through God’s boundless love and unmerited favor. It’s the most significant gift God gives because it reconciles you to Him, restores your relationship with Him, and grants you eternal life.

None of us can boast in our salvation because it’s not a result of what we’ve done–it’s a result what Jesus did. He bought and paid for our salvation on the cross. And it’s finished (John 19:30). It's by God's grace that you're redeemed–not because you are good but because He is. This grace is offered freely to anyone who says “yes” to Jesus! It’s through faith, not good works, that you received the gift of salvation.

Think about the profound implications of this gift. When you were dead in your sins and separated from God, He sent Jesus to live, die, and rise again for you (Romans 5:8). It’s the ultimate demonstration of God’s love and grace. In Christ, you have forgiveness of sin, restoration of your relationship with God, and the hope of eternal life. This gift of salvation is a profound blessing, and meditating on that can change your attitude to gratitude, joy, and an overwhelming desire to share this gift with others.

I encourage you to spend time today thinking about your salvation and thanking God for it! Not only do you know where you’re going when you leave this earth, but you also have the power of “sozo” every day of your life!
