On The Mark | A New Dependence

On The Mark | A New Dependence

Welcome to Capital! We're glad you joined us. Enjoy the service! You can take notes and save or share them from this app. A smart no-paper way to keep your notes for easy access. Through the month of March and April we will be going through the book of Mark. We are looking at the life of Jesus and it will take us right into Easter weekend. Who is Jesus? Why did he suffer and die for us? How does becoming a servant make Jesus king? Will you believe? Below you will also find information and helpful links including text and online giving, prayer requests, and information about our church.

Why were the disciples upset about people bringing children to Jesus?(v10:13)
The disciples probably meant well. Jesus was under great pressure from the constant crowds and a demanding schedule that sometimes left no time even to eat. Like a receptionist for a busy executive, the disciples apparently thought their role was to protect the Lord from what they considered annoying interruptions and petty distractions. Jesus, however, always had time for children, seeing them as models of innocence, humility and trust.

In the kingdom of God, power and importance are flipped upside down.

Living with kingdom values means valuing the vulnerable and sacrificing for others.
WE ACHIEVE GREATNESS THROUGH DEPENDENCE

Should adults act like children?
Jesus doesn’t call people to childish behavior; he calls them to childlike faith. The qualities of humility, trust, receptivity and a lack of self-sufficiency all characterize the person of faith. The kingdom of God is not earned by human effort but is received in childlike trust as a gift of the mercy and grace of God.

OUR DEPENDENCE IS PLACED IN THE ONE WHO LOVES US

DEPENDENCE ON HIM WILL ONLY MAKE US BETTER. WHAT SEEMS HARSH IS LOVINGLY FOR OUR GOOD.

What guarantee comes with our commitment to follow Jesus?
We aren’t guaranteed prosperity, nor do we gain a hefty spiritual stock portfolio with guaranteed returns when we serve God. Realistically, there will be problems and perhaps a high price to pay. But we are promised not only blessings in this present age but also eternal life in the age to come.

It wasn’t the money that hindered the rich man; it was the self-sufficiency. It wasn’t the possessions; it was the pomp. It wasn’t the big bucks; it was the big head. . . .

TOTAL DEPENDENCE PLACES US AT THE FRONT OF THE LINE
