Walking With God

Key Verse : Proverbs 3:6

Cold, crisp air hit my face, and as my feet picked up speed, the numbness started to take over my body. I knew I was in the motion of running, but it was so frigid that my whole self was numb to the touch. ⁣

At some point along the way, it hit me. I had to engage with Him; my stride could only make the next decisive step in His specific direction— it could no longer be about the outcome I wanted it to look like.

The stride is living in His goodness over and over when we can’t feel the motion of one foot and the next picking up speed, but we go because living by the Spirit is keeping in step with the Spirit. You see, we never derail from Him when we are confident in His ability⁣.

Trusting God means we also have to acknowledge Him and honor His ways in everything we do. Believing that He has already set the path before us. He has already won the battle; the victory is already His. When we acknowledge Him, we engage; we actively press into life with Him; we encounter Him day in and day out.

In this second part of this verse, we see His response to us—He promises us that He surely will direct our path. It is here that we walk with Him through it all.

Paul writes in Galatians  5:25, “ If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. ”

Let’s look at the word walk here. The ancient Greek word stoicheo means “to walk in line with” or “to be in line with.” The verb stoicheo means ‘to be in line with, stand beside a person or a thing, hold to, agree with, follow.’ ⁣

Paul was telling the people here to keep in step WITH the Spirit. It involves a pace and a habitual practice. It tells us that we just might have to adjust our pace (our ways) so that our strides engage with Him to take the lead. Observing along the way the miles before Him and the steps ahead, running with what He said to understand it all.⁣

When we yield to the spirit of God, we engage, walking in the Spirit. It is here that we get in stride with Him. ⁣
