The Way of Love
1 Corinthians 13:2, 3
“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.”
Character trumps gifting every time. The more dramatic sign-gifts such as tongues and prophecy attract attention, but misused can be destructive. Apostolic faith that inspires and moves mountains is nothing without love. Even the inspiring examples of sacrificial giving or self-sacrifice, and even martyrdom, have no eternal value without love. The path of love is narrow and not many find it. Love is the aroma or fragrance of Jesus. Love is the primary distinguishing characteristic of all true followers of Jesus. Walking in love transforms how we express the gifts of the Spirit and live the gospel. The world follows gifts. Jesus’ followers walk in love.
Lord Jesus, I humble myself before you. Fill me with your love and mercy this day and love others through me, for your glory.
