Uye mbatya dzedu neshangu dzedu zvasakara nokuda kworwendo rurefu refu.” Varume veIsraeri vakaravira mbuva yavo asi havana kubvunza Jehovha. Zvingwa izvo zvembuva yedu takazvitora zvichakapisa mudzimba dzedu musi watakabuda, tichiuya kwamuri; asi zvino tarirai, zvaoma, zvavhuvha. Maguta avo aiva Gibheoni, neKefira, neBheroti, naKiriati‐jearimi. Vana vaIsiraeri havana kuvaparadza, nokuti machinda eungano akanga apika kwavari naJehovha Mwari waIsiraeri. Ungano yose ikapopotera machinda. Asi machinda ose akati kuungano yose, “Takapika kwavari naJehovha, Mwari waIsiraeri, naizvozvo zvino hatigoni kuvaitira chinhu. Tichavaitira chinhu ichi, tichavarega vari vapenyu, kuti tirege kuwirwa nokutsamwa kwaMwari nokuda kwokupika, kwatakapika kwavari.” Zvino machinda akati kwavari, “Ngavararame havo. Vakava vatemi vehuni navateki vemvura veungano yose, sezvavakaudzwa namachinda.” Zvino Joshua akavadana, akataura navo, akati, “Matinyengedzerereiko, muchiti, ‘Takabva kure‐kure nemi, zvamugere pakati pedu?’ Naizvozvo zvino muri vanhu vakatukwa, muchangosiva varanda navatemi vehuni navateki vemvura veimba yaMwari wangu.” Vakapindura Joshua, vakati, “Nokuti varanda venyu vakanga vaudzwa zvirokwazvo kuti Jehovha Mwari wenyu wakanga araira muranda wake Mosesi, kuti akupei nyika yose, nokuparadza vose vagere panyika ino pamberi penyu; naizvozvo takatya kwazvo nokuda kwenyu kuti tichaurawa, tikaita chinhu ichi. Vakatora masaga matsaru vakaisa pamadhongi avo, nezvigubhu zvewaini zvamatehwe zvasakara zvakabvaruka-bvaruka zvakaitwa zvokusoneredzwa. Vakapfeka mutsoka shangu dzasakara dzine zvigamba. Vakapfekawo marengenya. Chingwa chembuva yavo chakanga chachiti papata kuoma chava nechiundudzi. Vakaenda kuna Joshuwa pamatendhe kuGirigari, vakataurira iye navaIsiraeri vachiti, “Tabva kunyika iri kure kwazvo. Zvino tinokumbirawo kuti muite chitenderano nesu.” Asi varume vechiIsiraeri vakati kuvaHivhi, “Ko zvimwe mungadaro muri vanhu vagere pakati pedu, tingagoita sei chitenderano nemi pakadaro?” Ivo vakati kuna Joshuwa, “Tiri varanda venyu.” Joshuwa akati kwavari, “Ko ndimi vanaani? Munobva kupi?” Vakati kwaari, “Isu varanda venyu tabva kunyika iri kure kure. Asi vaIsiraeri havana kuvauraya nokuti vatungamiriri vegungano vakanga vapika naTenzi Mwari wavaIsiraeri. Vanhu vose vakabva vanyunyutira vatungamiriri. Vatungamiriri vose vakaudza gungano rose kuti “Takavapikira naTenzi Mwari wavaIsiraeri. Zvino hatikwanisi kana kumbovabata-bata zvedu. Zvatichaita kwavari ndezvizvi, tichavarega zvedu vari vapenyu kuti tirege zvedu kuvirukirwa nehasha pamusana pemhiko yatakapika kwavari.” Vatungamiriri vakati kuvanhu, “Varegei vari vapenyu.” Saka vanhu ivava vakava vokutemera gungano huni nokuvatekera mvura sokutaura kwakaita vatungamiriri kwavari.
