But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ ”

Then Jesus said to him, “Begone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him alone shall you serve.’ ”

Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit in order to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, afterwards He was famished.

And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they immediately left their nets and followed Him.

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
