Stewarding Your Treasure

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” —Matthew 6:21 (NIV)

When Jesus spoke about treasure, He wasn’t just talking about money — He was talking about what we value most. Your treasure reveals your heart. It shows what you trust, what you love, and what you’re building your life around.

God doesn’t need your money, but He desires your heart. Stewardship is about recognizing that everything we have — time, talent, and treasure — has been entrusted to us by God. We are managers, not owners.

When we give, we’re not losing something; we’re investing in eternity.

The resources God gives you are meant to flow through you, not just to you. That’s why generosity is not a financial decision — it’s a spiritual one. It shapes your heart to look more like His.

Jesus told a story in Matthew 25 about three servants who were entrusted with their master’s money. Two invested what they were given, and one buried it out of fear. The lesson is clear: God expects us to steward what He gives — faithfully, fearlessly, and fruitfully.

Stewarding your treasure well means:

  • Putting God first— honoring Him with your tithe and trusting His provision.
  • Living open-handed— being willing to bless others and meet needs around you.
  • Planning wisely— budgeting, saving, and spending in ways that reflect Kingdom values.

Proverbs 3:9 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops.”

When you honor God first, He blesses the rest. It’s not about how much you have — it’s about how much of you God has.

Your giving becomes a declaration: “My trust is not in money — my trust is in God.”

And here’s the beautiful truth: every dollar surrendered to God’s purposes turns into spiritual fruit. Souls reached. Lives changed. Churches planted. Hope restored. Treasure in heaven.

Reflection:

  • What does my spending say about my priorities?
  • Am I trusting God with my finances or holding back out of fear?
  • How can I use what God’s given me to bless others this week?
