Malachi 2:10-16

Malachi 2:10-16 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Do we not all have one Father? Has not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously with one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers [with God]? Judah has been treacherous (disloyal), and a repulsive act has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD which He loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god. [Ezra 9:2; Jer 2:3] As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob to the last man those who do this [evil thing], awake and aware, even the one who brings an offering to the LORD of hosts. This is another thing you do: you cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with [your own] weeping and sighing, because the LORD no longer regards your offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. But you say, “Why [does He reject it]?” Because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously. Yet she is your marriage companion and the wife of your covenant [made by your vows]. But not one has done so who has a remnant of the Spirit. And what did that one do while seeking a godly offspring? Take heed then to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of your youth. “For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with wrong and violence,” says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore keep watch on your spirit, so that you do not deal treacherously [with your wife].”

Malachi 2:10-16 The Passion Translation (TPT)

Have we not all one Father, the one God who created us? So why do we cheat one another and violate the covenant that God made with our ancestors? The people of Judah have been unfaithful. A horrible atrocity has been committed throughout the land and even in Jerusalem. They have married foreign women who worship their strange gods and in this way have defiled YAHWEH’s temple, which he loves. May YAHWEH punish the one who has done such a despicable thing, whoever he may be, even though he brings offerings to the Lord Almighty. May YAHWEH banish his entire family from the community of Israel! Another thing you do: You drown YAHWEH’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer values your offerings or accepts with pleasure what you bring him. “Why not?” you ask. It is because you promised before YAHWEH to be faithful to the wife you chose in your youth. She is your partner, and you are bound to her by covenant, yet you have betrayed her. Has God not made them one with a shared Spirit in their union? And what does he desire but godly children from your union? So guard your spirit and do not be disloyal to the wife of your youth. “I, YAHWEH, the God of Israel, say to you: ‘He who does not love his wife but hates her and divorces her overwhelms her with cruelty. So guard your spirit and do not abandon her.’ This is YAHWEH, Commander of Angel Armies, speaking to you.”
