ඔහුගේ පියා වූ සෙකරියස්, ශුද්ධාත්මයාණන්ගෙන් පූර්ණ ව, මෙසේ දිවැස් වැකි පැවසී ය: “ඉශ්‍රායෙල්ගේ දෙවියන්වහන්සේ වන, ස්වාමින්වහන්සේට තුති පැසසුම් වේවා; මන්ද උන්වහන්සේ ස්වකීය ජනයා වෙත පැමිණ, ඔවුන් මිදූ සේක, සිය සේවක දාවිත්ගේ පෙළපතින් ගැලවීමේ අඟක් උන්වහන්සේ අපට නැගිටුවා දුන්නේ, ඉහතදී තම ශුද්ධ දිවැසිවරුන්ගේ මුඛයෙන් උන්වහන්සේ පවසා තිබූ පරිද්දෙන්, අපගේ සතුරන්ගෙන් හා අපට වෛර කරන සියල්ලන් අතින් අප ගලවනු ලැබීමට ය. අපගේ පියවරුනට පොරොන්දු වූ දයාව පෙන්වීමට හා උන්වහන්සේගේ ශුද්ධ ගිවිසුම සිහිකිරීමට ය. අපගේ පිය වූ ආබ්‍රහම්ට දිවුළ ඒ දිවුරුම, අපගේ සතුරන් අතින් අප මුදන්නට හා බයින් තොර ව උන්වහන්සේට මෙහෙ කරන්නට අපට හැකි වන පිණිස ය; අපේ සියලු දවස්වල ශුද්ධත්වයෙන් හා ධර්මිෂ්ඨත්වයෙන් යුතු ව උන්වහන්සේ අබියස එසේ කළ හැකි වන පිණිස ය. “මා දරුව, නුඹ මහෝත්තමයාණන්ගේ දිවැසිවරයා යයි හඳුන්වනු ලබනු ඇත. මන්ද නුඹ ස්වාමින්වහන්සේගේ මාර්ගය සකස්කරන්නට උන්වහන්සේට පෙරටුව ගමන් ගනු ඇත්තේ, උන්වහන්සේගේ ජනයාට ඔවුන්ගේ පාපවලට කමාව තුළින් ගැලවීමේ දැනුම ගෙන දීමට ය. අපගේ දෙවියන්වහන්සේගේ මෘදු වූ දයාව නිසා ය, ඉහළ අහසේ සිට අපට හිරු උදාවන්නේ; ඒ, අන්ධකාරයේ හිඳ සිටින්නන් හා මරණ සෙවණේ හිඳින්නන් පිට බබළන පිණිසත්, සාමයේ මාර්ගයට අපගේ පා යොමු කරවන පිණිසත් ය.”
