එහෙත් මරියා සොහොන් ලෙන පිටත සිට හඬමින්, හඬන ගමන් සොහොන තුළට එබී බැලුවා ය. එවිට සුදු වතින් සැරසුණු දේව දූතයින් දෙදෙනකු, කෙනකු යේසුස්වහන්සේගේ දේහයේ හිස තිබූ තැන ද කෙනකු පාද තිබූ තැන ද හිඳ සිටිනු දුටුවා ය. ඔවුහු ඇය අමතමින්, “ළඳුනි, ඔබ හඬන්නේ ඇයි දැ?” යි ඇසූහ. මරියා පිළිතුරු දෙමින්, “ඔවුන් මගේ ස්වාමින්වහන්සේ ගෙන ගොහින්; ඔවුන් කොහේ උන්වහන්සේ තැබුවාදැයි මා දන්නේ නෑ” යි කීවා ය. මෙසේ කියා ආපසු හැරුණු ඈ යේසුස්වහන්සේ එතැන සිටගෙන සිටිනු දුටුවා ය. එහෙත් ඒ යේසුස්වහන්සේ වග ඈ නො දත්තී ය. යේසුස්වහන්සේ ඇය අමතා, “ළඳුනි, ඇයි ඔබ හඬන්නේ? කවරකු ද ඔබ සොයන්නේ?” යි ඇසූ සේක. ඒ උයන්පල්ලා යැයි සිතූ ඈ, උන්වහන්සේ අමතා, “මහත්මයා, උන්වහන්සේ ඉවත ගෙන ගියේ ඔබ නම්, ඔබ උන්වහන්සේ තැබුවේ කොතැනකදැයි මට කියන්න. මා උන්වහන්සේ ගෙන යන්නම්” කීවා ය. එවිට යේසුස්වහන්සේ, “මරියා!” යි ඇය ඇමතූ සේක. එදෙස හැරුණු මරියා, “රබ්බෝනි!” යි උන්වහන්සේට කීවා ය. (රබ්බෝනි යනු ගුරුතුමනි යනුයි.)
