Some people believe that you have to wait until you die to know for sure whether or not you truly belong to God and get to spend eternity in Heaven.  Not true!  God wants you to live a victorious life for His glory right now, confident not only of where you will spend eternity (1 John 5:13), but also in His love and your identity as His child.  Not sure whether or not you belong to God?  Don’t wait another day to find out!

The Holy Spirit who worked in and through the members of the early Church is the same Holy Spirit who works in and through members of the Church today. Their story is our history, one we can draw on and learn from as we execute the mission we’ve been given as followers of Jesus Christ. 

Of all the apostles, Paul’s conversion/calling story was arguably the most notable and miraculous, his assignment to take the Gospel to the Gentiles the most unique, and the tangible results of his obedience the most impressive by human standards. Even so, Paul did not operate as a lone wolf, set apart from the pack and self-sufficient. On the contrary, this hero of the Christian faith understood the essential role his brothers and sisters played in his life and stayed connected to them even when his assignment to preach and live truth called him away for long stretches of time. 

“More than conquerors,” that’s what the Bible calls those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ for eternal salvation from the consequences of sin (Romans 8:35-39). So why do we continue to struggle after surrendering our lives to Him?  Because the Enemy is alive and well and wants to steal our joy.  Don’t let him!  Overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit instead.

To say the apostle Peter was passionate about following Jesus Christ and advancing the Gospel would be an understatement. The man tried to walk on water to get to Jesus, cut a guy’s ear off for trying to arrest Jesus, and allowed himself to be crucified upside down for his faith, but Peter’s journey didn’t happen overnight. Don’t be intimidated by Peter’s headlines. Read his backstory and be encouraged.

The Bible is full of heroes—made so by the power of God in response to their faith—but it’s also full of ordinary people struggling to accept the profound truth of God’s love for them. The Samaritan woman is one such character. Study her story, see yourself in it, and discover God’s best for your life like she did.

Salvation is about rescue.  Christianity is about obedience, and the second is proof of the first (1 John 2:3). Call yourself a Christian?  Then follow Jesus.  Obey.

Paul wasn’t one of the original twelve apostles. Nonetheless, he took Jesus’ Great Commission to heart and spent his entire life making disciples, or students, of everyone he met. He shared the Gospel with them, then taught them how to illustrate that Gospel so it would never be called into question, others would accept it, and God would be glorified. Now it’s our turn! 

Are you married?  If so, congratulations!  You have been blessed.  Your wife is a gift from God (Proverbs 18:22), and no matter the state of your marriage at present, the covenant relationship you share with her is a God-ordained privilege.  This privilege of marriage comes with responsibility, not only to your spouse, but also to God, as marriage itself is a metaphor for Jesus’ relationship to the Church.  Want to glorify God and help advance the Gospel?  Learn how to love your wife well!

One way to understand what God wants to do through us by the power of the Holy Spirit is to take a closer look at what He did through Jesus’ disciples by the power of the same Holy Spirit. Take Peter, for instance, the first apostle to speak up at Pentecost. His life is a case study for the kind of radical transformation the Holy Spirit brings about in people who put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation.  

Although simpler and, in some parts of the world, less dangerous, living the life God calls us to isn’t any easier today than it was for early Christians. Thankfully, in the apostle Paul we have a skilled teacher who is able to explain how the whole process works. Ultimately, the decision is yours alone to make. Will you live the truth? 

When you put your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation from the consequences of sin, God becomes your Heavenly Father.  As if that weren’t enough, He throws in brothers and sisters to boot, a ready-made family with eternal ties.  However, membership in God’s family is a privilege that comes with responsibility.

Make no mistake.  You are no cosmic accident or walking fish.  You are the direct result of the inclination, desire, and Word of the Almighty God!  He crafted you.  He formed you.  He put the breath of life in your lungs. The pinnacle of His creation, you were made in His image.  Why?  For one purpose alone, His glory.

We are all God’s creation, formed from dust. By itself, dust is useless, but when we put our faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection for salvation from the consequences of sin, the Living Water that is Jesus Christ turns ordinary dust into usable clay.
