Your Story Made New: A Holy Week DevotionalSample

When Jesus entered Jerusalem for the most important week in history, he immediately caused a scene. This week, Jesus intends to cause a scene. He intends to flip tables and preach truth because when Jesus enters the city, Jesus claims the crown.
As Luke retells the story of Jesus’s ministry, it’s impossible to miss this tension. For Luke, Jesus is the true king. He is the Savior, Messiah, and Lord (2:11). He is the one who brings good news and freedom, the one who declares God’s favor (4:18-19). He displays the power and character of God, inviting all people to participate in a better kingdom. But in Luke 9:51, the story of this king takes a sharp turn as “Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” The following 10 chapters have been building tension, waiting for Jesus to finally arrive in Jerusalem. In chapter 19, Jesus is finally here. This is the week when Jesus finally enters the city, and this is the week when Jesus will be crowned king.
2000 years later, Jesus is not entering Jerusalem this week. Instead, this week, Jesus is entering your heart. The long-awaited king is here. This week, Jesus intends to enter your life, to become your king, and to invite you into a better kingdom. Will you welcome the king?
The first thing Jesus does during his coronation week is flip tables and drive out abusers. The powers Jesus removed were infamous for taking advantage of others and keeping people away from God. This week, Jesus intends to be made king of your heart, and there is no room for a master who dampens your walk with God and harms others in the process. What masters stand in the way of your walk with God? This week, Jesus is finally here. It’s time for Jesus to drive out what keeps you in captivity. It’s time for Jesus to be proclaimed king.
